Plastic packaging is very frequent in food production systems! But, what happens to these materials after their use? Most often, they turn into an environmental hazard as they are hard to recycle and often poorly compatible with existing waste streams. That’s where BioPak4 will come in! In this EU-funded PathFinder project we aim to develop the concept of smart packaging, developing recyclable plastics that maintain high standards in food system but with a low environmental footprint. iBB participates in this challenging and yet exciting project (Nuno Mira, Ana Azevedo, Jorge Leitão), along with colleagues from University of Lodz from Poland, CSIC from Spain, TalTech from Estonia and UHasselt from Belgium.
