DBE acquires an MRI tabletop system for teaching Medical Imaging labs

A new tabletop Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) system has been acquired by DBE, in an initiative led by Prof. Rita Nunes, to enable Biomedical Engineering students to obtain hands-on experience with this imaging technique. The system is equipped with a 0.34T resistive magnet, can scan objects up to 15mm wide and is controlled via a laptop or tablet through the use of Jupyter Notebooks. Prof. Rita Nunes and Prof. Patrícia Figueiredo plan to use it in the context of the Biomedical Engineering Master’s and undergraduate programmes, in particular in the curricular units of Introduction to Bioengineering, Medical Imaging, NeuroImaging and Advanced Imaging Techniques.
