DBE MSc Work Distinguished at IEEE ENBENG 2025

The work “Design and Development of a Biomimetic Transtibial Phantom for Testing Limb–Prosthetic Socket Interactions”, resulting from the MSc thesis of DBE alumni Bernardo Santos, supervised by DBE Prof. Hugo Plácido da Silva and Luís Rodrigues, Prosthetics and Orthotics (CPO) at Blatchford, has been distinguished with the “Scientific Honorable Mention” at IEEE ENBENG 2025. This work was motivated by the complexity of studying the interactions between the residual limb and the prosthetic socket in patients with lower limb amputation. In particular, experimental testing is highly dependent on the patient. To mitigate this, the distinguished work presents a biomimetic phantom of a transtibial residual limb, along with corresponding prosthetic components. See more.
