From luminescence to space

Professor Vasco Bonifácio (DBE, iBB) was a Guest Scientist at Escola Ciência Viva from Pavilhão do Conhecimento – Ciência Viva. On October 16th, Prof. Vasco Bonifácio and Eng. Lucélia Pombeiro (Retired LNETI Researcher) welcomed pre-school and first-cycle classes at Pavilhão do Conhecimento. The youngest were given the interactive lecture “A Luminous Journey”, which featured a range of experiences centred on the luminescence theme (light pollution, fireflies and bioluminescence, fluorescent food, phosphorescent materials, and plasmas) and the atmosphere (rare gases).

For the older children, they presented the interactive lecture “A Journey Around the Earth”, which highlighted the importance of the International Space Station (ISS) in exploring different areas of knowledge, with particular emphasis on astronauts’ health (physical changes, space pharmacy, and nutrition). The session concluded with a virtual reality experience using VR glasses – “A Walk Through the ISS”. See more.
