The Department of Bioengineering (DBE) welcomed Professor Walid Saad from the American University of Beirut, Lebanon, through the FCT Mobility Programme, under a grant awarded to Professor Vasco Bonifácio as the host researcher, further strengthening the international scientific collaboration between the two institutions. During his visit, Professor Saad delivered the seminar Flash Nanoprecipitation: A platform for poorly water-soluble therapeutics, in which he presented the principles of flash nanoprecipitation as a versatile technology for producing nanoparticles for the formulation of poorly water-soluble compounds. The seminar highlighted the role of this technique in formulation engineering for drug delivery, with examples of applications in nanomedicine, molecular imaging, and cancer therapy. The visit also included scientific meetings with researchers from iBB, fostering new opportunities for collaboration in nanotechnology, drug delivery systems, and the development of joint research projects at both the national and European levels.
