If each country decided to change the acronyms of biochemical compounds to make them compatible with the designation in the national language, this would lead to the confusion and the lack of communication of the paradigmatic biblical story of the Tower of Babel.

The acronym ADN is very frequently used to state the DNA of a football club, a political party, a company, any institution, or social group. The acronym DNA is therefore now part of the Portuguese lexicon and not just to refer to the DeoxyriboNucleic Acid molecule from which it derives. This cellular nucleic acid contains the genetic information necessary for a person and other living beings to function and develop, and this information is transmitted from one generation to the next.
